according to Classification Universal Decimal (CDU)

Principles

The thematic search for books is based on the Universal Decimal Classification.

This classification is based on a few basic principles:

  • everything classify: there is no “miscellaneous” section,
  • classify from content documents to be processed: it is therefore an ideological classification, in the true sense of the term,
  • classify by going from general to specific.

The whole of human knowledge, considered as the unit, is subdivided into tenths, then into hundredths, and so on. The indices of the CDU are therefore decimal numbers deprived of the zero and the comma. Thereby, 126 is ranked before 59, since 0.126 is a smaller number than 0.59. The numerical classification is arbitrary but it can be used in all the countries of the world, which is not the case, for example, for the alphabetical classification.

The use of indices has innumerable possibilities, to the point of constituting a veritable documentary language which expresses, in a codified form, very complex notions. We will not report it here.

Method

By following the links given in the tables, the reader will normally end up with a short list containing all the books relating to the subject that interests him. Any page with too many references can be easily subdivided like the previous ones. The same book dealing with various subjects can of course be referenced in several places.

the 0 (zero) ending a clue always signals that they are generalities about the above: the clue 30for example, brings together general notions of the social sciences.

Attention ! Due to various updates dictated by the evolution of knowledge and techniques, the numbering presents some irregularities which are not necessarily errors!

On the endpapers of classified books, you can affix the template {{CDU}}.
