From 1er May 2021, the remuneration of the unemployed without benefits who are in vocational training increases, with differences according to the age groups. In addition, some young trainees between 16 and 29 years old doing an integration or orientation course benefit from social protection and remuneration as if they were doing an approved course. Those who live far from their home can obtain reimbursement of their travel expenses to enable them to return home periodically.

Vocational training trainees taking part in a course approved by the State or the Region

This remuneration provided for job seekers who have never worked before and who are doing an internship approved by the State or the Region varies according to the age group:

  • for those under 18: 200 € per month (against €130.34 previously) ;
  • for 18 to 25 year olds: 500 € (versus €310.39 for 18-20 year olds or €339.35 for those 21-25 years ago);
  • over 25 years: 685 € (versus €339.35 for 21-25 year olds or €401.09 beyond 26 years ago).

For widowed, divorced or separated or single people under the age of 26 and who alone assume effective and permanent responsibility for one or more children, disabled workers seeking employment, the remuneration is set at 685 € per month (against €652.02 previously).

Job seekers following an approved vocational training course on 1er May 2021 and who have already worked receive the following remuneration:

  • €708.59 per month for self-employed workers, when they have carried out a professional activity, whether salaried or self-employed, for 12 months, including 6 consecutive months, in the 3 years preceding the start of the internship.
  • Between 685 € and €1,932.52 (calculated on the basis of the average wages received during the 6 or 12 months of activity) for disabled workers with a previous period of salaried activity:
    • at least 6 months over a 12-month period;
    • or at least 12 months over a 24 month period.

Job seekers under the age of 26 following an approved vocational training course on 1er June 2021 who are not disabled workers receive remuneration in the amount of 685 € per month when they have carried out a previous salaried activity:

  • at least 6 months over a 12-month period;
  • or at least 12 months within a 24 month period.

These interns under the age of 26 who have already carried out a salaried activity under the above conditions will receive an exceptional bonus if they were already on an internship in May 2021 and if their remuneration for the month of May 2021 was less than 685 €. It will be paid in June 2021. Its amount will be:

  • €0.22 per hour of internship carried out in May 2021 within the limit of €32.98 when the internship started before 1er May 2021;
  • €1.22 per hour of internship carried out in May 2021 within the limit of 185 € when the internship started between 1er and May 31, 2021.

Young people aged 16 to 29 doing a support, integration, orientation…

The status of vocational training intern is extended to young people aged 16 to 29 who are doing an internship:

  • accompaniment, professional integration, orientation or support for the definition of a professional project, initiation, training or additional professional training;
  • and within the framework of a national program organized and financed by the State intended to meet an additional need for qualification for the benefit of young people who have left the school system without qualifications or who are looking for a job with a lower level of qualification. or equal to the baccalaureate.

From 1er May 2021, trainees in a public or private organization thus benefit from the following measures:

  • social security affiliation;
  • remuneration equivalent to that of approved internships;
  • a reimbursement of their variable transport costs according to their age when the place of their internship is more than 25 km from their usual residence:
    • under 18: reimbursement of three-quarters of travel costs incurred for one trip per month;
    • over 18 years old: full reimbursement of transport costs incurred for one trip per quarter if the duration of the internship is more than 3 months.

Methods of annual revaluation of remuneration

The terms and conditions for the annual increase in the remuneration of vocational training trainees were specified in a decree published in the Official Journal of April 5, 2022.

From 1er April 2023, the remuneration of vocational training trainees will be increased on 1er April of each year, except when this remuneration is determined on the basis of a previous salary. This upgrading concerns internships followed by:

  • self-employed workers;
  • job seekers no longer covered by the unemployment insurance scheme;
  • workers recognized as disabled;
  • persons in the hands of justice.

In addition, will also be revalued each year on April 1:

  • the minimum and maximum amounts of remuneration for all of these internships;
  • the remuneration of salaried workers who are awaiting reintegration or in the process of redeployment and who are following a course approved by the State or a region:
  • the amount of the monthly installments.

The first revaluation will therefore take place on 1er April 2023.
