The double world champion is one of the entries for the French road championships a few days before the start of the Tour.
Uncertainty still reigns as to the participation of Julian Alaphilippe in the Tour de France from July 1 to 24. But his future participation in the French road championships could give an indication. Scheduled for Sunday June 26 in Cholet, five days before the big start of the Tour in Copenhagen (Denmark), the men’s “Elite” road race should allow the double world champion to resume competition.
Victim of a serious accident during Liège-Bastogne-Liège at the end of April, Alaphilippe is on the entry list for the race, where he will wear bib number 2 behind his teammate Rémi Cavagna (bib 1), who will put his title back into play. Third member of the Quick-Step-Alpha Vinyl formation present in Maine-et-Loire, Florian Sénéchal should have a good card to play.
Pinot and Bardet absent
“Alaf”, who “hopes to become champion of France before the end of (his) career“, should not play the win in view of a state of form obviously compromised by his injuries in April. However, his participation in a three-week course at altitude (Sierra Nevada) with his team is likely to reassure him about his future arrangements, and therefore about his participation in the next Tour de France.
An event where the two other figures of tricolor cycling will appear, Thibaut Pinot and Romain Bardet, who will be absent at the start in Cholet. On the other hand, Guillaume Martin, coming out of a trying Giro, will be present on the starting line for this final rehearsal before the Tour.
