Particularly active during transfer periods, the president of Olympique de Marseille Pablo Longoria will be active again this winter. But before possibly strengthening the squad available to his coach Jorge Sampaoli, the Spaniard will have to make sales.
Pablo Longoria will activate in January.
It’s no secret that Olympique de Marseille is in a delicate financial situation. For several months, the Marseille club has been supervised, concerning its payroll and its movements, by the National Management Control Department.
As the winter transfer window approaches in January, Marseille president Pablo Longoria will therefore have to have a sense of responsibility.
Kamara and Caleta-Car, two departures always desired
According to information from the daily L’Equipe on Thursday, OM’s priority will be to sell several players during this transfer period. Like last summer, midfielder Boubacar Kamara, followed by AS Roma, and defender Duje Caleta-Car, followed by several English clubs, are the two serious candidates for sale. For the Frenchman, this is the last opportunity to sell him before his probable free departure at the end of his contract, next June. Regarding the Croatian, Marseille wants to get rid of his imposing salary by recovering a nice check, estimated at more than 12 million euros.
While the two men had refused to leave last August, Longoria hopes for a different outcome this time around. In addition to Kamara and Caleta-Car, the Spaniard will also look for an opportunity for left-back Jordan Amavi, too little used by coach Jorge Sampaoli and clearly pushed towards the exit. And the other players? As usual, Longoria will be open to all proposals. However, the Iber has not planned other departures, despite rumors around goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, defender Alvaro Gonzalez or winger Luis Henrique.
Longoria listening to Sampaoli
If the expected sales are confirmed, the boss of OM then intends to take action in the direction of arrivals. Unsurprisingly, Longoria has heard Sampaoli’s requests and wants to be able to meet his needs. While waiting to have sufficient cash, profiles have already been targeted with 4 potential recruits: a central defender (depending on departures), a back-up for Luan Peres on the left, a left winger and a goalscorer to compete with Arkadiusz Milik. A big project in perspective!
