The PS departmental council will launch, if the state authorizes it, the experimentation of an income of 350 to 500 euros per month for 1000 young people aged 18 to 24 years.

The departmental council of Haute-Garonne voted, on December 14, to experiment with a basic income for young people aged 18 to 24, subject to the approval of the prefecture within two months of the decision. A refusal is possible because the National Assembly rejected in 2019 the proposed basic income experimentation law brought by 18 departmental councils. In Haute-Garonne, 1,000 young people will be drawn by lot according to a representative panel (urban, rural, students, unemployed, etc.) of the 146,100 young people aged 18 to 24 in the department, 37% of whom do not receive any assistance. From March 2022, they will receive a monthly allowance of 350 or 500 euros per month depending on their tax income, for 18 months. The department plans to devote a maximum of 9 million euros to the device.
