Do you want to change your car for a less polluting vehicle? For the purchase of a new electric or rechargeable hybrid vehicle, the ecological bonus scales have changed since 1er July 2021, they are maintained until 1er July 2022. You can benefit from the conversion bonus to scrap your old vehicle and acquire a new, less polluting one. New criteria have been in effect since 1er July 2021. The decree relating to aid for the acquisition or rental of low-emission vehicles was published in Official newspaper on December 30, 2021.
The ecological bonus makes it possible to receive, without income conditions, aid for the purchase or rental of a new vehicle, electric or rechargeable hybrid, whose CO2 emission rate does not exceed 50 g/km. The ecological bonus and the conversion bonus can be combined.
Ecological bonus on used electric vehicles
A help from €1,000 is granted for the purchase of a used passenger car or electric van. To qualify for assistance, you must be of legal age and domiciled in France. There is no means test.
The used vehicle must meet the following conditions:
- be kept (whether purchased or rented) for a period of at least 2 years;
- have been registered in France for at least two years on the date of invoicing of the vehicle or payment of the first rent;
- be registered in France in a definitive series;
- have a CO2 emission rate of 20 g/km maximum (electric vehicle).
Amount of the ecological bonus
The scale will be lowered by €1,000 from 1er July 2022 and not from January 1, 2022 as initially provided for by the decree of December 7, 2020.
From 1er July 2022, rechargeable hybrids will be excluded from the aid system which will be reserved for electric vehicles whose CO2 emission rate is less than or equal to 20 g/km.

To know : For the purchase of an electric or hybrid vehicle, the amount is increased by €1,000 for Overseas residents on the condition of driving there with the new vehicle for 6 months or more following its acquisition.
To note : you benefit from an additional premium if you live or work in a low mobility emission zone (ZFE) and your local authority has paid you aid to buy or rent a clean vehicle. The amount of the additional premium is identical to the aid paid by the local authority, within the limit of €1,000.
Conversion bonus: eligible vehicles
The conversion bonus, which is added to the ecological bonus, is an aid granted, subject to income conditions, during the purchase or rental of a low-emission vehicle in exchange for the scrapping of a old diesel or petrol vehicle.
The vehicle to be destroyed must meet the following conditions:
- for a diesel vehicle, the first registration must be prior to 2011;
- for a petrol vehicle, the first registration must be prior to 2006;
- the owner must have owned the vehicle for at least one year;
- the vehicle must be registered in France and not be pledged;
- the vehicle must have a Crit’Air 3, 4, 5 sticker or not be classified;
- the car must be destroyed in an approved center within 3 months before or within 6 months after the purchase of the new vehicle.
You can benefit up to €3,000 for the purchase of a new or used thermal vehicle, and up to €5,000 for the purchase of a new or used electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle with a range in electric mode of more than 50 km.
From 1er January 2022, the maximum CO2 emission rate is lowered to 127 g/km. Only vehicles emitting up to 127 g/km of CO2 (instead of 132 g/km) are eligible.
